Parents Anonymous® of Oregon & Parent Mentor Program
Parents Anonymous® of Oregon
Parents Anonymous® of Oregon delivers family-strengthening and child-abuse-prevention services to parents, including those contending with substance abuse and both the child welfare and criminal justice systems. Parents Anonymous® of Oregon offers two unique programs: Parents Anonymous® Parent Support Groups and the Parent Mentor Program.

Parents Anonymous® Parent Support Groups
Parents who are looking for a supportive, non-judgmental environment to learn new parenting strategies and develop leadership and advocacy skills for their families find what they are looking for at the Parents Anonymous® Parent Support Groups. Based on the Parents Anonymous® Inc. evidenced-based model, Parents Anonymous® of Oregon offers free of charge, weekly support groups for anyone in a parenting role seeking support. Group members create long lasting positive changes in their families through participation. Groups are co-led by parents and a professional facilitator trained in the evidenced-based, child abuse prevention Parents Anonymous® model.

Groups are available in Multnomah and Marion counties. In addition to our general groups, open to anyone in a parenting role, Parents Anonymous® of Oregon offers specialized Parent Support Groups to men and women who are in recovery from substance abuse and who may have had involvement with Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Welfare.

“It only takes one person to believe in you, for you to believe in yourself.”
-Angelina, Parent Support Group facilitator and Parent Mentor

The Parent Mentor Program
In Oregon, alcohol and drug abuse is the single largest contributor to child abuse and neglect. The Parent Mentor Program provides peer mentoring to parents impacted by addiction who are involved in the DHS-Child Welfare System. Parents are matched with a Parent Mentor who has faced and conquered similar challenges. Mentors help parents to stay on track, work through the child welfare system, complete substance abuse treatment, learn positive parenting skills, build self-esteem, develop advocacy skills, connect to the recovery community and ultimately return to parenting clean and sober. Parent Mentors can work with parents throughout the length of their child welfare case, thereby providing the on-going support, validation and encouragement that parents need to overcome the challenges of addiction.

Parent Mentors are available to any mothers and fathers in Multnomah County who have an open Child Welfare case due to substance abuse.

“As a parent mentor, I want to be the parent that I never had, and to help break the cycle of addiction for families.”
