EARLY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH PREVENTION SPECIALIST/QMHP
@ Early Childhood Consultation and Prevention Services
(Part-time: 30 hrs/wk)
Position Summary:
Provide
a broad range of mental health prevention services including early childhood
consultation, parent training and support groups, and other mental health
services to identified children and their families in selected child care sites.
Involves implementation of evidenced based practice models, including The
Incredible Years Parent and Child Series and other evidenced based practiced
models as assigned. Services provided in selected early child care and
education sites. Staff also receives consultation services. Duties: early childhood mental health
consultation, referral services, promoting and marketing group services,
facilitating parent and child groups, data collection and clinical record
keeping.
Education/Experience Required:
- Master’s level degree in psychology, social
work, counseling or related field. Licensure preferred but not required.
- 2 years direct experience in mental health
setting providing prevention services and/or mental health therapy to children &
families.
- Experience in Early Childhood Mental Health
prevention services including group prevention services essential.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully
promoting/advertising groups and securing participants for groups, as well as
experience leading and facilitating parent training groups.
- Must meet QMHP requirement under State of
Oregon Office of Mental Health and Addiction Service’s Administrative rules.
- Incredible Years Parent training preferred,
if not then commitment to become trained within 3 months.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) training
preferred, if not then commitment to become trained with 3 months. (as
assigned).
- Incredible Years child social skills training
preferred, if not then commitment to become trained with 1 year.
- Incredible Years Parent Certification
preferred; if not certified then interest in or actively pursing parent
certification required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated
familiarity with the Incredible Years (parent and child curriculum) and CBT
curriculum, if assigned.
- Demonstrated
skills in early childhood outreach, including varied and creative strategies to
extend services to families.
- Knowledge
of the developmental needs of children birth to 8 years old.
- Knowledge
of individual, family, and group prevention treatment and strategies.
- Advanced
mental health skills in promoting prevention and treatment groups and in
recruiting group participants
- Knowledge
and advanced practice skills in establishing collaboration with community
partners & providing mental health skills in community context.
- Advanced
skills in leading prevention and treatment groups.
- Ability
to effectively participate in on-going evaluation of group and consultation
services.
- Values
multi-agency collaboration with community partners.
- Ability
to communicate effectively in English with clients and services providers.
- Demonstrated
ability to work with diverse populations in a variety of environments,
particularly child care settings.
- Ability
to maintain client files in accordance with agency requirements and Oregon
Administrative Rules.
- Ability
to exercise tact, discretion, and judgment in working with a variety of people.
- Must
value working in a multicultural / diverse environment.
- Must
have a good understanding of and ability to use DSM IV Diagnostic
Categories. Familiarity with Diagnostic
Classifications of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and
Early Childhood (DC 0-3).
- Ability
to maintain appropriate professional boundaries in working with others and in
handling confidential information.
- Ability
to work effectively and positively as a member of a coordinated / multi-agency
team effort.
- Ability
to work independently and seek out supervision as needed or required.
- Ability
to accurately read, record, and interpret clinical information.
- Demonstrated
ability to regularly attend and be punctual for scheduled work commitments and
meeting and be in a condition suitable for assuming responsibilities of
position.
- Demonstrated
professional skills related to the effective use of clinical supervision and
consultation provided by both assigned supervisor and evidence based practice
experts and consultants.
- Knowledge
of professional research supporting evidenced based practice models.
Other Requirements:
- Availability
to work supervisor / program designated evening hours.
- Personal transportation allowing for timely travel
within the Portland area. Must have and maintain valid driver’s license for
state of residency, personal auto liability coverage at $100,000/$100,000 and
have driving record meeting corporate driving requirements.
