For children and youth who have been exposed to severe abuse or trauma, Outpatient mental health services may not be adequate. Most children in Day Treatment programs have not been successful in standard school settings. The combination of treatment, highly specialized education, and in some cases specially-trained foster care provide the consistent and predictable environment for the child or youth to make progress with the goal of returning to a less-restrictive, community setting.
