Autzen Foundation Awards Morrison Child and Family Services $5000
Autzen Foundation Awards Morrison Child and Family Services $5000
PORTLAND, OR – October 19, 2011 – The Autzen Foundation awarded $5,000 to Morrison Child and Family Service’s Hand in Hand Day Treatment Program, which provides mental health services to severely abused and neglected children aged 3-9 years. The grant will be used towards such urgent needs as facility improvements and repairs, as well as expenses associated with the day-to-day operation of this vital program.
Many maltreated children develop emotional and behavioral problems; the effects of these traumatic experiences are varied and unique to each child. An individually tailored service plan is implemented for each family at Hand in Hand after a thorough evaluation is conducted to assess the type and severity of maltreatment, age of onset, pattern of maltreatment, environmental risks, child’s temperament, and the strength of other interpersonal relationships. Day Treatment services are provided year-round, 4 hours per day for each child, serving up to 44 at-risk children at a time. The Day Treatment milieu is a combination of interdisciplinary, therapeutic activities integrated with the Portland Public School DARTS Program, community-based skill development, and, when necessary, Therapeutic Foster Care.
