CULTURAL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Cultural Accountability Committee is to create and maintain an environment where the organization's workforce and people utilizing services are safe. Safe, in this context, means that all individuals will feel respected and appreciated for their specific and unique contributions. We work to continuously improve the delivery of culturally responsive and competent services through the development and maintenance of relevant policies that produce measurable outcomes at every level of the organization.
COMMITTEE STRUCTURE:
Morrison and Janus Youth Programs have joined together to form the Cultural Accountability Committee.
- Leadership: The CAC is led by a Chair. The Chair, Program Director representatives, along with other interested members, form the Steering Committee.
- Program Representation: Each program appoints a representative to the Cultural Accountability Committee (CAC).
- Quarterly Committee Meetings: Full committee meetings are scheduled four times per year.
- Subcommittees: CAC Subcommittees include the Steering Committee, Self-Assessment Planning Committee, Communications Committee, and the Gender Information/Education Committee. Other groups that also report to the CAC include the Girls System of Care Committee and the Corazón de Hispano (Latino/Hispanic) Committee.
CULTURAL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE PLANS:
For 2004, the CAC focused on assessing and developing Morrison’s capacity in the area of Knowledge. For 2005, the CAC is focusing on Resources. Each program:
- Forms a program-level committee to lead the cultural accountability efforts.
- Conducts a brief self-assessment survey in the area of knowledge of cultural competency.
- Based on the results of the self-assessment, determines a specific item to work on.
- Creates a plan to address that item which is simple, easy, meaningful, and expandable.
